Taux : - We use the Garmin Astro for K9 SAR. We put it on the dogs & record the areas they searched. The unit is nice, but frustrating to operate. It is advertised as being like the Garmin 60C series, but the operating system (menu screens) are very different and have much less functionality than the 60C's. I would have wanted to carry just one unit, but alas, I carry both because the screen functionalty on the Astro does not have features the 60CS has. The screen sequence for starting & stopping recording the dog tracks is very cumbersome and confusing. The harness that comes with the unit is worthless - dangerous really. It is a velcro 'vest' that is supposed to fit snugly around the dog's chest. It has to fit snuggly the way its designed in order for it to stay on the dog . . . but that snugness also causes the dog to not be able to breathe properly - for a working dog - that could cause major medical emergency. All of us who have them have designed some other attachment method to the dog's regular working harness. Garmin could save some money by removing the harness fromt the package & putting in a simple/better way to attach it to another harness. This all sounds bad . . . the unit works pretty well actually, but these pesky details cause it to be used less often that I would like.

Taux : - My son realy wanted this, becouse my brother has one. I use the 60CSX however and did not research enough before buying the one he wanted. This is a very good kit. Good price and exceptional quality. However none of my computers have RS-232 ports. I did not to think about looking at the connector, becouse I am so use to mine having USB. So I spent $50 and got the adapter, this did not help alot though. We can see the device almost every time, but most of the time it will fail its data uploads. So far I have not come up with a good solution. Once you do get it to upload however it works well. It does not get good reception in the woods or near cliffs, but this is to be expected with the older antenas. So If they would fix the connection problems (PC to GPS) I would rate this 4 stars. If you have an older computer you should not have these problems, just make sure you have RS-232.

Taux : - I bought this shortly after my teenager returned home after disappearing with my car for 5 days. When I got her back, this product became an integral part of re-establishing trust in her again. When she was gaining back her driving priviledges, I tracked her movements continuously and watched where she went. I caught her lying 2 times about where she was at and each time, she lost priviledges for a period of time. Since those two times, I've never caught her lying about where she's at again, and yes, I still check up on her, but not continuously as I was before!

The online tracking at Zoombak.com is very easy to use. You can either do "spot checking" and see where your car is at that moment, or you can turn on "continuous tracking" and have your car tracked for an hour at a time. My only wish is that it was for longer than an hour. At the end of the hour, the tracking shuts off and you have to restart it manually.

A nice feature of the Zoombak is the ability to set zone alarms. If the car goes a certain distance from the location during certain hours, you can receive either text alerts on your cell phone, emailed alerts, or both.

You don't need a PC to track your car - it can be done via a cell phone, or even a call to Zoombak's customer service number.

I've only had to call Customer Service twice. Once to activate the unit, and again when I thought I had a problem with the unit - turns out I did not have any problem with it - and both times the agent was very polite.

I've had this permanently installed in my car so it stays constantly charged. I had Best Buy install it, and they were quick and inexpensive.

Even if you do not have teen drivers, this product will help give you and your loved ones peace of mind. Cars break down, cell phones batteries run out, cars get stolen...imagine knowing that you can find out where your car is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Taux : - My Chinese shar pei rescue, Xia, has been a little Houdini. She escaped under the fence and was saved by a good Samaritan in the middle of a busy highway a mile from our house. I started looking for some way to keep her safe and saw Zoombak on Martha Stewart. I put it on her everyday while we are away from home. I had just walked the fence line checking for possible fence leaks and found a little area that looked like it might entice her to attempt digging out. My husband hadn't reinforced it yet due to pouring down rain. Who would expect a CSP to go out into the rain at all--much less go out and hunt a place to dig under a fence????It had rained almost daily for weeks here. I take Xia out for a 3-4 mile run daily unless it is pouring down--and it was that Monday. Her Zoombak notified my husband's cell phone that she left the yard and was out by the highway and the entrance to the Natchez Trace. My husband rushed home from the police department while I was out doing home health care visits. This time she was gone, and it was raining and cold. He could not find her. I had him call the Zoombak rep who started tracking her. He told Bart she was in between the Natchez Trace Parkway Visitor's Center and Beech Springs Road in the area we often run on the trails. Well, you can't pinpoint a location in the woods on the federal Parkway like a GPS can in a neighborhood with lots of streets. And she can run fast for miles. I finally get home and started the continuous tracking on my computer all the time praying fervently for God to save her & help us find her. Xia is not nice to strange dogs or strange humans. I could imagine a park ranger finding her loose, and Xia acting agressive. It was almost dark---the temperature was dropping--and it was pouring down rain. My husband finally found her, and I finally got Xia home just before dark!! That little imp goes right back out in the rain and tries to get back out of the fence!
Had it not been for that Zoombak, we would not have known where to even start looking for her. She was not in the neighborhood, and she was not interested in leaving the freedom of chasing smells in the woods. Xia most likely would not have made it through the cold wet night running back and forth across all those roads. Last time, she was a mile up north on hwy 145. This time, she headed south to the Natchez Trace Parkway. Zoombak was worth every $ I spend on it for just this one time it saved my dog's life!

The fact that you can also use it for other items is nice. This unit is small and battery life seems to be pretty good.

We were staying at a house without a fence so we thought it couldn't hurt to throw a GPS on the dog in case she somehow got away. The dog hasn't gotten away. Its cool how you can check online to see the location, or text to find out location. I find it very easy to use. I think its great!

Taux : - Zoombak claims the battery lasts up to five days before recharging. The best I've been able to get is 69 hours (less than three days). I have no use for something that needs constant attention.
I have NEVER received an alert when the Zoombak leaves a zone that I have set.

Taux : - I have used other, and more expensive, tracking units and I have to say I am impressed with the accuracy of this unit. So long as it is stationary it has excellent accuracy, even when indoors. Tracking while moving has large variances in the accuracy, but that is the same with even the more expensive units. The small size of it is what impresses me most. I drop it in my kids backpack or pocket when they go on fieldtrips and it gives me additional peace of mind. I would definitely take it with me when trail riding or backpacking. The service fee is great considering you get an unlimited amount of locates, other companies often charge per locate plus the monthly service and it adds up quick. The main complaint I have is the rechargeable battery life needs to be improved. I have heard other complaints about the customer service, but the two times I dealt with them I had favorable results each time.

Taux : - These guys are the first and only one on the market. If they weren't the only one, they would be dead by now. On the other hand, their product does work most of the time. It's difficult and annyoing to use, the web site stinks, it only works once out of every two times I try to locate my dog, and the features are limited, but it does track my dog, which nothing else will do. So, I am glad I bought it and I do use it every other day or so. Still, I hope something else better comes along, there is much room for improvement.

Taux : - I have two Zoombaks-one in each car. I feel so comfortable knowing that when my nanny is out with my kids, in either car, I can see where she is at any given moment. Personalized Safety Zones

A safety zone is a personalized virtual boundary around a location that you’ve chosen. When your car enters or leaves an active safety zone, you can be alerted via email and/or text message (your choice.) You can create up to 10 safety zones, 5 of which can be active simultaneously at any given time. Safety zones can be quickly and easily turned on and off via Zoombak.com.

Safety zones can be quickly set up on Zoombak.com in 4 easy steps:

Name your safety zone and enter an address or use the current location of your Zoombak Locator to create your virtual boundary.
Select a boundary radius from as small as 110 yards to as large as 880 yards or a 1/2 mile.
Create a schedule for when you would like your safety zone to be active. For example, Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm
Select how and when you wish to be notified. For example, you can be notified via text message and email when your car enters and leaves the safety zone.

When your car enters or leaves your safety zone, you can receive a text message and/or email notifying you of the date and time of activity. The Zoombak Car & Family Locator automatically keeps track of your car’s location while the device remains active.

Continuous Tracking

Zoombak's continuous tracking feature provides you with an automatic update of your car’s location every 5 minutes for up to 1 hour. Your car’s location, with time and date, will be shown on a map on Zoombak.com. Upon activating this feature, Zoombak will:

Determine your car’s real-time location.
Display its location on a map.
Provide location updates every 5 minutes. After 1 hour, you can easily extend continuous tracking for an additional hour

Location History

Zoombak’s location history allows you to see where your car has traveled for the past hour, day or week. Your location history will be available for your review on Zoombak.com for up to 7 days.

Low Battery and Power Off Alerts

As part of your service, you can opt-in to have Zoombak notify you via email and/or text message (your choice) when your Zoombak Locator has been powered off or has a low battery. You can add multiple email addresses and mobile phone numbers to receive device alerts.

With "Power OFF" alerts, you can opt-in to be notified promptly when your device has been turned off along with the current or last known location information.

With low battery alerts, you can opt-in to be notified when your device battery is at 25% capacity. If your Zoombak locator powers off due to a low battery, you can receive a second alert advising you that your Zoombak locator has been powered off, along with the last known location of the device

Attach Collar and Go

The Astro system includes a bright color-screen handheld GPS device and the rugged, all-weather DC 30 collar. The collar has an integrated GPS transmitter and is specially weighted so the antenna will always point to the sky for optimum signal. To get started, just take Astro outdoors and turn on the handheld and transmitter to acquire GPS satellite signals. Then attach the DC 30 to your dog. Now you're ready to turn him loose - no other setup required.

Track Dogs in Dense Cover

As often as every five seconds, your dog's DC 30 transmits his position to your handheld, and you can see his current location and a trail of where he's been on the Map page of your handheld. Switch over to the Dog Tracker page to view a compass pointing to your dog's location as well as his current status: whether he's running, sitting, on point or treeing quarry. Astro can also sound an alarm to let you know instantly when your dog goes on point.

Astro boasts a high-sensitivity GPS receiver that can track your dog's position even in the densest cover. You can track up to ten dogs at one time with Astro, at a distance of up to seven miles away (depending on terrain). The system transmits information by line-of-sight, so it reaches farthest in flat, open territory.

Count Your Coveys

After you've captured your quarry, mark the exact spot with Astro's Covey Counter, a special waypoint that tells you the exact location, time of day and elevation where you found your prey, as well as the number of birds you flushed and took from that location. Astro lets you save other special waypoints, such as "Truck"

Taux : - I love my tracking system, but where I am not a computer or technology kind of person, I had to play with it for a while to figure things out. But, once you learn it, wow! I would really recommend it to anyone.

Taux : - The updated version of the previous 220/DC20 combo improved the transmitter unit making it hang better and more durable than it's predecesor. The unit is rugged and durable and seems to handle rough use well. The range is very dicey. On flat terrain easily got one mile but in hilly country or thick forest this dropped considerably.
The GPS220 is the weak link in this system. It is an average GPS unit, good for a monopurpose unit. Maps are good but if I want to use My RINO series GPS/Radio and have my GPS in my car and need to put an e-collar on my dog, it's a lot to lug around. The dogs collar does not accomodate a e-collar reciever and the GPS transmiter without getting too bulky. The 220 does not have communication ability nor does it do text to voice driving directions hence, is not useful as a standalone GPS unit in a car So If you want a high end GPS for your car you will need a second unit. I would hope garmin would have built this in and then this would be a truly universal unit. But why not make it a RINO unit as well, one less thing to carry in the field.I actually hope garmin teams up with Tritronics or Dogtra and builds a e-collar/GPS Locator.
If you want to just locate a dog and have a rudimentary GPS this is a good unit.
